Our Research & Development team is continually working to enhance the performance of the ICE Panel. Often this results in a strategic change to a material we use or a change at a station in our manufacturing plant. Before any sort of alteration takes place, thorough testing must happen to ensure it meets or exceeds our current standards.
In order to perform testing, the R&D team loads several completed ICE Panels to failure. This is done to make sure the ICE Panel’s strength still meets our requirements as we make any changes to improve the product. Our plant will produce at least three test panels that feature an innovation or change. Once the panels are connected to our testing instrumentation and loaded to destruction, the data is then collected and analyzed, and from there we can determine if our innovations were a success.
Some of the innovative testing involves major shifts in how the ICE Panels are made. An exciting example of this is the testing of a high-performance EPS foam that provides a higher R-value, therefore resulting in increased energy savings for our customers. Innovations are often smaller in scale as well but tested none the less. New raw materials or even a slight optimization to a station in our process results in a new round of testing.
“What I enjoy most is the buzz that’s created in the plant as a particular innovation moves through the process. Everyone from the start of the process to the end gets to see these changes being put into place and it gets some excitement going in the plant.” – Andrew McGregor – Manufacturing/Process Engineer In Training
A lot of excitement surrounds the work our R&D team does. They are at the forefront of ICE Panel innovation, creating a lot of curiosity and interest that carries through from production to sales, and most importantly, to our customers.
